LFS always have zuchini strapped to the floor of the tank and the fish seem to really dig it. What's the deal with that? Why zuchini, what about...celery? Is this merely to distract them from eating the live plants in the tank? I have bought a zuchini, and I am a little afraid to use it. Just want to know what the crowd is doing before I follow over the edge...

Anybody know?

Lots of people put pieces in for their plecos, or herbivours.. cichlids probably will peck away at it too..

celery is mostly water, so doesn't do much good for them. You can cut the zuccini up into small pieces and chuck em in like pellets, or you could stick it on the bottom and let them fight over it.

I feed zuke to my oscar, like most oscars smaller pieces get inhaled. Angels will nibble on the larger pieces I put in their tanks for plecs.

Veggies as a regular part of a cichlids diet are a good peventive measure for constipation.

Heh my oscar likes to chew on peas :) He doesn't really eat them but just chews on them for like 30 seconds and spits them out all chewed up. The lobster loves it though, he gets the leftovers :) He ate a carrot peel once too (turned his poo orange).. we're always throwing random veggie cuttings in there so see what he'll eat :)
