Hi all

The filter (internal, 40 litres an hour - 35 litre tank)for my new tank is currently running in my old tank and will be for another month until its cycled. The filter media is just one piece of low density foam and some carbon in a mesh bag in a plastic case. I know that youre not meant to change more than a third of the media at a time, but i can only replace 1/2 at one time. Would i be able to cut the foam in half so i can replace a quarter of it at one time?

Random question - do cherry shrimp mind plant food?(liquid ferts).

And can someone name some good internet sites to buy live plants from please. healthy plants

thank you

You can remove the carbon, and place a second foam piece in the filter. Activated Carbon is only any use for removing aquarium treatments/medications. I wouldnt use it as a routine filter aid.

shrimps and other invertebrates SHOULD be ok with most plant foods. Do NOT use any copper based treatments with shrimp/invertebrates in the tank. - if in doubt, look at the ingredients list on the packet. If you see any copper content - do not use with shrimp in the tank.

Plant foods will help to encourage good growth of the plants in your tank (stating the obvious here!) - but they will also discourage the growth of many types of algaes, so be prepared to provide algae wafers etc to the shrimp if their "naturally growing" food source dries up.

Good plant site: Google "the green machine"
Lots of info there too. Never bought from them - just used the pictures to identify plants id like.

Take a look in the Planted tank section: ask those guys about plant websites.

oops - forgot to say -

Try ebay for plants. Im always seeing moss balls for sale - dont know if anyone on hear knows of a good seller?!?!

Regards, Saz
