i have a few bunches of variegated japanese rush and the leaves on one of the older bunches is starting to go stringy and dead like. i first noticed when my bnose was having a good munch on it
yeah so why is this happening??!! please help! thanks

It is not a true aquatic plant. It only survives for a while underwater, then it dies, rots, and your pleco eats it. Sadly, a lot of unsuitable plants are sold as aquarium species.

Pretty much anything that can support itself out of water is suspect, true aquatics use the water for support, (there are a few exceptions - emergent forms of aquatics that are only submerged part of the year for example). Also, unless you are sure of the species and variety, variegated plants are generally not suitable either, espeacially if cheap.

what do you mean by support?

If when you remove the newly bought plants from the water the leaves remain rigid and stand upright then there is a very good chance the plant is non aquatic.
