I've had four Neon Tetra's for around 3 months now, I have a 65 litre tank, with 4 white widows, 4 glowlight tetra's and 3 male guppies.

All was fine this morning, all ate well but when I got home from work today, I noticed there were only 2 neon's in the tank, have had everything out, but absolutely no sign of them, have just gone back in to check on them and now there is only 1, absolutely no sign of it anywhere, can a fish die and be devoured in 3 hours? My widows are pretty huge, but wouldn't have thought they'd have eaten it quite as quick as that.

The poor last neon is just hiding at the back of the tank in the plants, unfortunately I don't have a spare tank, only one with my Betta in, would I be better moving him out of the larger tank, in with my Betta or should I just leave him be and see what happens?

Ammonia and Nitrite at zero, Nitrate at 30.

thanks

I would check your filter first. Have you got a lid on your tank? A neon is virtually colourless when dead, so could it be camouflaged against your substrate? or maybe you have a snail/shrimp? I remember one of my neons going missing, I took all the ornaments and plants out, but couldn't find it. Then saw the snail was wrapped around it. yuk!

Didn't actually take the filter apart, will do that and see if I can see a body.

Last neon still with me as we speak and fed with all the others this morning, so hopefully he'll be ok.

Thanks

this happened to me last week had 16 neons on the friday night woke up on the sat morning to 9 neons now down to 7 no more dispaeences so far ! lol just another case of the disapeaing fish

and to the question of being eaten in 3 hours ! one of my red wags was alive when i left for work at 11:50 came home and 5:05 to find part skeleton floating in the top of the tank so if that can nearly be munched in 5 i guess a neon can be munched in 3 ! lol

Very strange now back to 2 neons, don't know where the other one was, the only place I didn't look was under the bogwood, must have been hiding. Cleaned the filter today and part of a body floated out. So not sure what killed them, but the other two look healthy as do the rest of the fish.

Will keep an eye on them.

Thanks

i had this once they can get in the smallest of places. neons CAN and WILL jump i have to cut outs on my lid and they jump out of there so i sealed it up
