my lake has many of the american vallesneria. i was wondering...would it be ok to pick a few and do a number of quarantines in order to make them usable?

maybe a salt bath....then putting the temp up to 110 F to kill any organisms?

any ideas?

As it is with fish, Plants also have to adapt to tank conditions if brought in from the "wild"..... They'd probably get a slimy filter over the leaves in the first phase (& die off), but the new leaves forming, will be permanent.

Don’t raise the temp or salt bath vallis because you will kill it. Just collect some, (assuming it isn't in a national park) and take it home. Keep it cool during transit and when at home check it for snails & snail eggs, and give it a rinse under tap water to wash off any chemicals that might be on it. Then plant it into some pots with gravel and put it into a quarantine tank. Leave it there for a few weeks and see how it does. You can do complete water changes to help remove any disease organism on it. You can also use copper sulphate to kill of snails and hydra that might be lurking on it.
After the quarantine period you can rinse the plants under tap water and put them in the main tank.

vallis can survive brackish conditions so this may be a good idea for killing of any organisims. Dont raise the temperature though.
