I looking to replace my Vallisneria with something similarly leafed but does not propagate by runners. I just cant keep up with its growth and its a pain to replant as I have a deep tank.

Any ideas ?

doesnt crypt Balansae propagate fast and by runners?

put the vallis in a pot or icecream bucket and put some rocks or wood around it to cover it up. Then the vallis will be more inclined to stay in the bucket. You can also use perspex or glass partitions in the gravel to act as borders and stop the runners from getting out of control.

Crypts are slow growers that don't produce runners. They have a tubor/ rhizome and it grows slowly over a course of months. As the tubor gets longer the plant produces a few more leaves.
