Do UV sterilizers only help with green water algae or will it help with other types as well?

Our 28gal tank has been invaded and conquered by hair algae and there's pretty much nothing I can do to get rid of it due to where it is in the house.
There is plenty of movement in the water b/c of the 2 filters.... the reason for the algae is b/c the tank is right beside windows that get alot of sunlight.
We've already added in a big bunch of hornwort to try to help control it some, but that's not working too great heh.

So yeah... would a UV sterilizer help? I'm not entirely sure how those kind of things work, obviously heh

the short answer is yes! it kills free swimming organic partials, this would include algae.

That is good to hear! I'll have to look in to getting one b/c the tank looks awful! lol

Sorry Amunet, but a UV steriliser will not clear your hair algae.

You may find that the algae is due to not enough available CO2 in relation to the light levels. Try blocking out that sunlight.

Dave.

I second Dave. It can be useful as it will kill any algae spores that avoid the filter media. The filter media will take care of any 'free floating' algae of any size. But as Dave says. algae that is attached will never 'see the light'.

Awww, booo, well... maybe I can get one to help prevent green water then. Will it help to prevent more hair algae??

that it does, though as stated elsewhere in the thread, too much light may be your main problem
