I have a planted community 105 litre tank. I have been advised to fit a uv steriliser to the system.
I run a canister filter fitted with biohome ultra media in all 3 baskets. I also have a fitted external filter booster.
From what I have read on the internet views are very mixed about uv.
Does any member have any views on this.

I have a UV light in my Polar Aurora (unbranded Sunsun) HW-304 B canister filter. The consensus seems to be that water flow is typically too fast through units like this for the UV light to be really effective. I think it might be effective for some water clarification, but not really to sterilize and kill pathogens, etc. I've been running it for about 2 hours following water changes.
Other "in tank" units may be more effective and most will like combat green water problems.
On the other hand, I've been in the hobby for many years (like 50+) and have never really felt a need for a UV sterilizer - especially if you stay on top of tank/filter maintenance and perform necessary periodic water changes of sufficient volume to maintain a high water quality.
If you haven't already, it might be better to invest in the tools required to make water changes as efficient as possible.

I have one lying in a drawer somewhere. There is no need in a tropical tank. Maybe different of the tank is outdoors where you have no control over the light, but for an indoor tank its just a watse of money.
