Has anyone ever tried making a UV steriliser? They seem to be pretty simple, I might give it a go

Ummm, be very very careful if making a UV sterilizer. Afterall this is UV radiation we're talking about here and will do harm to anything it shines on. The exterior casing must be fully opaque to not allow UV transmission through it, and all materials used in construction must be UV resistant and not decay under the shine of the bulb. UV radiation will decay most plastics so choose wisely when constructing.
