ok uv filyters exactly what do hey do how do you set 1 up and most importantly are they really worth the money

a uv filter breaks down floating algea . The floating algae will then clump together to form bigger bits of algae this then gets trapped in the mechanical filter. It also kills a lot of bacteria (good and bad bacteria)

on the koi pond it is after the filter and the goldfish is before the filter. i would think before the filter would be best for a tank.

i have one on day days ( oscar) tank, was easy to set up and seems to be effective, theres never any alage in there and hes never been ill, i set it up purley for the "protection against illness" factor, not sure if it contributes, but im happy thinking it does :)
i dont have one on any of my other oscar tanks and they have never been ill either,so were all happy :)

shelagh xxxx

EDIT.. i wouldnt buy another one for my oscars BUT i would if i was adding new fish on a regular basis

okey dokey thanks dont think i will bother as my water stats are tip top, good filtrstion and water changes seem to be enough, was just curious as to how much difference they made

they dont help/change your water stats.

they only kill bacteria thats not needed and break down the floating algea.

imo in a tank its a waste of time.
