Ok, so I am SO glad I decided to quarantine Jenga, he has some sort of slimecoat issue now, or a fungus. I added in some fungus meds, and some melafix/pimafix for his finrot, which he also has :grr:

Also, I am still on the fence o the subject of Merlin. Does he have Velvet? who knows? I have him right next to me and I am going to watch him like a hawk. So far, no abnormal behavior. What should I look for? I have a flashlight here,a dn am compairing him to bettas with velvet online. Still can't decide...it really looks like a VERY mild case of Velvet with REALLY small parasites.

GAR! If whtever Jenga has goes away, I'll be a LOT happier. I am going to pick up some salt today and put a tad in everyone's tanks because I am SO mad, it's like I'm plagued. What kind of salt should I get? When I was there left, they had stuff called instant ocean. Would this work?

Ummm, I don't think so. I think that is for a saltwater tank. What I use is called Doc Wellfishes Aquarium salt. I've seen it at every LFS store I've been in. It's pretty common. :)

Ok I will look for that, thanks! If nothing else, I can get un iodized baking salt. I heard it works OK too.

BTW: Whatever was up with Jenga looks better now, odd.

sounds liek you doing teh right thing for jenga, he should get better soon, just remember to keep his water very clean, thats a must with fungus related illness.

as for merlin, if u have any reason to beleive he may have velvet u should treat him immediately, as for treatment, i couldn't tell ya, iv never treated velvet before -_-

and i dont see why instant ocean wouldn't work. i do know that its meant for saltwater tanks, so i dont know what else is in it besides salt, maybe try asking on a salt water forum or ask in tropical chit chat. ;)

I know how you feel.

I keep waiting for the day when I can get on TFF and announce to y'all that I finally have 100% healthy fish. I've been waiting for that day since November of last year. :p Part of my problem is that I keep dragging sick fish home with me, but at SOME point, the madness has to stop, doesn't it?!?!

uugh

So anyway - on to your issues...
for Merlin, I'd jack his temp up and put the full amount of salt in.
If he gets better, if he gets worse then you know you need to medicate.

Make sure he's got plenty of clean water.

If you're lookin for salt, WalMart has it for $1.32 for a carton. I used to buy it there. Good luck! :)

OH - and as for Jenga - i'd get some slimecoat and give him a good squirt. That might help him out a bit, too.

I have been treating Merlin for 3 days now. I have been doing 25% water changes every day, and adding in a few drops of rid ich. If I am right and it is velvet, it is an extremely early case. It won;t do any serious harm if he doesnt have it, either. Jenga still sort of looks like something's up, but the long string of whatever is gone. Maybe I'll add some salt and keep treating him for another day or so to be safe.

When I do have completely healthy fish, I will be VERY happy! That awesome day is right around the corner, I can feel it!

Whatever Jenga and Merlin have is definitely nothing to get worried about. My ICH nightmare might be over soon (2 out of the remaining 4 are healed) and I have 2 healthy bettas, Sky and Dory. *knocks on wood.* So my neons have no choice, they will either die or get better, and my bettas, things are looking up.

Oooh great!
I think I must have not realized you were treating Merlin.
You will know soon enough if he's got velvet - he'll start acting like he's gettin shocked, and scratch on the bottom of the tank, kinda all at the same time.

Keep up the good work and you'll most likely beat me to the 100% healthies :)

Not so sure about that, bettamomma. I seem to have contracted the rare but serious TFF disease, where if I see a needy fish (usually betta) it takes all of my willpower, (and my mother's NO!) to drag me away from it. I wonder if there is a treatment for THAT...?

I'm thinking maybe a few good, sound whacks to the head with a cinderblock might do the trick. If you don't die, you may not remember you like fish.

But anyways, is there anything else I should pick up, do you think? So far my little list just contains doc. wellfishes salt, slimecoat, and more fish food. (stupid dog ate it ALL! my BRAND new package!) and MAYBE that poor, crippled betta I saw there last time, if my puppy face still works.

my "local" walmart is quite far from me,and I don't think I've ever been there. They may or may not even have a fish section. I probably am just going back to the lfs i was at yesterday, petworld. The best petshop BY FAR in my town is called Doolittles, they cycle tanks, have good fish advice, but it is about a half hour drive and my parents rarely take me.

Hmm.
Well, in that case I'd try to get some maracide in case the velvet sneaks up on you, then you're prepared. Other than that, I think you're set! :)

Except for the little crippled betta boy.
Put that on your list. Go around the store looking at your list and say "Uh huh.. okay..." and cart off to the next item, get it and put it in your cart, then cross it off... Do the same and get the next item, etc. include the betta boy in that list of things, but put it in the middle so it's not the last thing you pick up.

Then say you're ready to go.
And keep a totally serious face and avoid all eye contact.
Maybe they'll not notice the little bugger.

Well, got everything on my list except the maracide and the betta... i was too late for the betta. THEY KILLED IT! I was furious! I ranted for a while, then left before i broke out in the store. Forgot the maracide. Figures. Well, I'm going to have to get it the next time I go.
