Hi all - quick question.

If the nitrates that are produced as the end result of the bacterial cycle of the tank are good as food for the plants in the tank, (hope they are now I've said this  ), then is the tank water good for your houseplants as a mate of mine has told me?

Please come back with a yes answer as we watered all our courgette, bean, tomato, sweetcorn and cucumber seedlings with tank water last night! erk. :/

My mom takes the tanks water after a water change and puts it on her roses.

I think anyone who throws their tank siphonings away is losing out on a great resource. I've used mine for house and garden for 40 years! No fins growing on me yet, just the odd white spot, oops, I mean hair!

Acts as a great and cheap fertilizer! my plants have grown like crazy since using tank water! :D
I agree my plants have grown like mad an are so healthy since i started using the tank water

Yup, it's a fantastic source of nutrients  I water all of my houseplants with tank water, and after they're all watered I throw the hose out in the garden :)

I've watered my plants before with tank water when I had goldfish, but now with all of the tropical tanks and salt in the water, will it hurt the plants? That's why I haven't been watering them with it,I'm afraid the salt may burn the roots...?

Wow I'm glad I read this post! My boyfriends mother is plant mad but is objecting to the ever increasing number of fish tanks in the house (were up to 5 now with another on its way) This is the perfect excuse to get some more...."we only want to set them up so you can have the water for your plants...." :p
