I used to use stuff called 'filter aid' in my blue lobsters tank and on my wifes cold water tank once in a while as it makes the water crystal clear.

With my discus and angel tank I dont use any medications unless totally needed as I know discus dont take well to them and regular water changes and a good filter have kept my tank clear and disease free but its never as crystal clear as when I use the filter aid on the others and although I dont do it very often the difference is amazing.....even if only for a few days.

Has anyone ever used their with discus, dont mean all the time but is it okay or should I stay as Iam.

My filter is more than enough and does keep the water clear......just not filter aid clear.

You can use "Diatom Powder" to polish your water (using Magnum 350 and the likes) or use UV light with your powerhead. Diatom is capable of trapping Ich and UV can just blow them up (as a preventative but I'd use the UV a lot less).

I would say go with it. Try it at half dose first and see if it has any effect on the fish. It probably wont have any effect on the fish anyway. If all goes well try it a bit stronger next time. Discus are NOT as fragile as you would think they are. Read up on the collection methods of the wold caught and you will see how tough these fish really are.

Those r chemical. In general if its not a must avoid dumping this kind of stuff to ur tank. No matter what kind of stuff or what they do. They generally do more harm then good. As for the clear water, r u over feeding alittle maybe? I mean my discus tanks water r very clean I do water change once every 3 days or so. I dont find alot of waste on my tank. Or maybe just the size of ur tank :dunno:

I dont over feed them, when i hear of people feeding theirs 3-4 times a day, I generally feed them twice a day and vary it as much as possible.

The discus are so much hardier than people made out, Im not saying its easy bvut I change about 25-30% of the water 3 times a week and they have been been great.

I think the tank size is more to do with it IMCL85, when I take the water out during water changes its pretty clear, its a little green because almost a whole wall of my livingroom is windows and although the tank isnt facing the window the room is very light.

I was thinking aswell with having the clown loach treatments and chemicals should be avoided if possible.
