Using aquarium salt...

I have 3 convicts in a 20 gallon (right now they are babys) and was wondering if I were to add aqaurium salt as a dechlorinater instead of the normal dechlorinater would it affect them in anyway? The aquarium salt I have dechlorinates water and acts as a stress elimanator also. I would only use it after a water change.

Convicts are freshwater fish, they shouldn't have salt added on any regular basis.
