Was wondering if anyone know what this might be? There's an oil-like shimmery sheen on the inside of the glass on this used tank I bought. It's not washing off and it's not coming off with a razor blade or polishing compound either. It's a 29 gallon tank. It's not oily to the touch - just looks like that metallic reflection that you get off of an oil slick.
Bought it used at a charity yard sale where it had been donated, and I don't have a history on the tank. Substrate was large pebbles and it had been used with water as there's a huge hard-water ring around the top (can't get it off) and also what looked like salt-buildup on the edges and the filter. I don't think it was a marine tank, but maybe a cichlid tank? (60 gallon filter on the 29 gallon tank.)
Do you think it's still safe to use for fish? I'm building a brackish palludarium for fiddler crabs and a few fish.

We're using it for the extra space rather than it's looks, unfortunately.
