Used Media

I put some emdia into my filter about a week ago (in my filtered tank). I got a new tank so will the bacteria have spread enough to the media to put it into the new tank?

Hmm, that's actually a good question because I'm not really sure of all the factors that encourage bacteria to spread...

- What kind of filter is it?
- What kind of media, and what position is it in compared to the old media? (i.e. top, middle, closest to the water flow, etc)
- Any reason you can't use a portion of the old filter media + the new just in case?

it was just a sponge with some carbom and round ceramic rings in my new filter I have a sponge carbon pack and ceramic rings so i just took out the carbon pack and put my whole sponge from my od filter in to let the bacteria spread.
