Us Gallons?

i have just read that " per gallon is for us gallons not british gallons. is this correct?
if so that gives me another 20" or so to think about!

1 US gallon = 3.78541178 litres
1 Imperial gallon = 4.54609188 litres

The difference is about 20%. The UK gallon is much bigger than a US gallon. The inches per gallon "rule" works fine for either kind because it is that loose in the guidance. The larger the tank, the more you can take liberties with the numbers you come up with.
