My fry tank did have a Ph of 7.3 (2weeks) and for some reason has jumped up to 8.2!!!!!! this could explain why my guppy fry are dying!!!

How do i go about reducing the Ph value in my tank? can i just swap the water for fresh tap water or would that be a serious no no?

Help i need advice now i'm sooo desperete, my fry are dropping like flies i need to save them as soom as poss.

:(

what is the ph of your tap water and do you have anything other than fish in your fry tank. It should help them to change part of the water a little at a time. Don't do one big water change. The ph isn't always as much a concern as keeping the fry tank very clean.

Thanks :) angel the Ph of my tap water is 7.3 and the Ph reading in my tank is 8.2!!! my little ones have only started dying this last week, my tank is kept very clean and feeding is only done twice a day.

I've testing for ammonnia, nitrite and nitrate and are all zero. All i got in my tank is guppy fry, roman gravel, plastic plant and water.

I've just changed 20% of the water and will check Ph again tomoz

I'm sooooo upset this has happened :(

water temp is 26'C and romab gravel is small rounded stones had them ages. Got more dead ones this morning :( dont understand whats going on here!!!!

Fry are better off kept in bare tanks ie no gravel plants or ornaments at all, most objects will affect PH in some way and the smaller the tank the quicker and bigger the effect.
To lower the PH try using RO water from the fs you can tailor the hardness to suit your fish and it has a neutral PH and also has the advantage of being purified of all heavy metals and toxins found in tapwater.

HI

Don't know what other people make of this but the chappy at my LFS said to use bottled water, just check the Ph on the label, as it is purer.
Just a thought. I'm sorry to hear about your babies dying, I'd be gutted, Have some of mine!!!!!!!

Don't use purified water. It has had all the benificial bacteria removed.
What are you feeding the fry. And yes a bare tank is best. The gravel could be upping the ph if the tap water is lower

Do the babies show any sign of difficulties swimming before they die? You mention they are guppies and I'm sorry to say that muscle wasting disease is common in them, you'll notice them swimming "awkwardly" their tail will not move properly, there is no cure and it may wipe out a large nmber of your babies, hopefully some should survive, its not contagious. :)

Thanks william they do swimming funny :/ then they shuffle along the bottom, stop breath quite heavily then died in arkward positions (90 degree angles) side fins stuck out :( . Never had any problems with my other 2 broods but this one was unexpectedly and there was 18 of them!!!

Unfortuntely :( my 9wk old male guppy died during the night but i think that was due to the filter not working properly in the night and the oxygen level dropped my 1 and only female guppy same age is grieving as she is always looking for him as they paired up together while growing up. So she is looking abit lost now

Thanks guys for all your help and advice much appreciated

sorry all of your fish is dying off. Sometimes this kinda of thing happens I dont know what to tell you to do in this matter but I can say I am sorry about your male guppy and your babies

sorry about your babies . I have 2 batches & both are fine one about 2 months & one about 2 weeks. I have petco & walmart 2 gallon hex tanks. they are all good , accept no boy fish. It sucks cause they are fancy tails! I actually put my preg. balloon mollies in new one to thin them out , but they do not seem interested. All I put in my tanks {6} is the aqua safe.

Do You crush your flake food to a fine powder??? I use the back of a tablespoon to crush the food.
