Hi there, these couple of days my dalmation molly has been acting really strange. Yesterday my male molly and male guppy have been chasing her everywhere. And today the male and female dalmation molly were swimming round in circles. She also has became thinner and has developed white foamy stuff around her mouth and eyes!(like cotton wool) And swims really fast like shes having a fit!! PLEASE HELP!!! :good:

At the moment she is in my breeding trap to get away from the males!

Thank you!

sounds to me like the males have stressed her out by keep chasing her.guppys and mollys will breed with eachother.its always best to have 3females to every 1male

oh dear, poor fish! do you have room for one or two more females? theres also an illness which can be like a cotton wool, maybe you'd be best getting a pic of what she looks like (and post in emergency section), unless its gone now shes less stressed? you cant keep her in the trap for too long though x

Thanks for your replies, there is one other female molly in the tank too but the males dont seem to be very interested in her, only the dalmation molly??!

The cotton wool like stuff hasnt gone away? I did a good water change to see if that would help, As I did some research and I found out it could be due to bad water quality, even though i do a water change every week.

My aim of the mollies were so I could breed (2females and 1male). But the male just doenst seem interested in the other female!?!

Sorry ill post in emergency next time!!! lol

Thanks again for the advice!! xx

Yes do water changes 30% every 2-3 days if it's poor water.
Myxazin and melifix will help control the fungal problem.

But keeping her in a breeding trap will only stress her more!

Good News! The molly has got back to its old self again! She has started eating again and is putting more weight on that she lost! All the cotton wool like stuff has gone too and she is sticking up for herself against the males! :hyper:

I will be be getting another female molly ASAP to hopefully give her a break!

Thanks for all the advice! :good: x

awww im glad shes back to her old self! :good: just a word on another female (and i hope someone more experienced can answer in more detail to this) - i have 2 black mollies, and the third, a second female, i bought the other day, and is a silver young female. now the male isnt paying any attention to her at all, although the she definitely knows shes a molly! she follows them both everywhere!!
so either the two black ones have 'paired', the silver one isnt old enough to mate, or maybe you have to get the same colour??

I really dont know, but maybe its worth asking before purchasing another female ;)

Thank u old man! :good:

Well I have a silver male, silver female and the female dalmation. Ive had the dalmation for a year now and bought the silver mollies about a month ago. First of all the two silver mollies stayed with eachother but now the silver male mostly chases the dalmation!

I really want to breed the mollies but nothing has seem to have happened yet. When I get a female molly from lfs (hopefully today!) I will try and pick a pregnant female.

But from my research I think any molly can breed with any molly! :hyper: x
