Urgent: Pictus Catfish

The barb on the pectoral fin of my pictus catfish has somehow penetrated into the side of his body!
The skin has slightly regrown over the fin tip, i've tried to remove barb but with no luck!

Anybody got any suggestions on what i should do?

how do you try to remove it?

one mine went in to the connar of the plastic bag and open all tree barbed fins.. took me while to free it..

I just tried to remove it with my hands, basically gave it a pull but it won't budge because the skin has started to re-grow over the wound ..

Should i just leave it and risk infection or try and pull it out again and stress it?

Any chance you could get some photos of it?

Im not sure what I would do, really depends on how bad it is... if its not to bad, i might have been tempted to make up a dilute solution of acriflavin or malachite/formalin mix and carefully pull the fin out from the body and swab the wound.

But thats only me in an emergency situation when i had something similar and it was do or die for the fish. The fish lived.

I wouldnt advise doing it if its too bad, is the fish in pain/off food/unable to swim?

I don't think i'll be able to get any pictures of it ..

It looks as if he's done the same thing on the other side but managed to pull it out himself, it's left a little wound but no too bad.. But the one on the other side just won't budge at all ..

We don't have any of those chemicals, and the fin won't budge really anyway ..

He's not in any visible pain, he doesn't try to get away when i pull on it or anything, not off food, and able to swim pretty well..

the bone end is fish hook shaped.. it wont come out that easy. i have cut the bag to get my pictus out. and that was so hard while he was moving.

time to get some clove oil and do a operation... i am sure someone from here will tell you about how to do it safely.

2 things then;

to release the bard you need to gently pus it inwards and then retract it.

Personally, I would brab a set of clippers and snip it off near the tip, then use some tweezers to try and remove it.

You definately need some melafix though, it'll do wonders with healing.

it would make things worse.

the end bit is like a arrow head.. its hard to get it out with its original bone.. let alone tweezers.
