Urgent! How Do I Treat 2 Illnesses?

The panda with the fungus sounds bad, can you issolate him? Sounds bacterial and you need an anti bacterial med, pimafix and myaxzin used together, sounds much like columnaris.

Hi minxfishy. I didn't use an antibacterial because i am already treating the tank with Interpet Anti whitespot and half a dose of pimafix. I put the second dose in on Tuesday and will have to wait for 7 days before I can redose or try a new treatment. The main problem is trying to get a diagnosis. A friend of mine says its fungus and finrot and another friend said it was velvet. The two pandas that brought this disease to the tank from my LFS are now ok but the one that was fine is now poorly.

hi aqua

The anti white spot should treat the fungus too. glad there pulling through for you

The ws3 and the anti whitespot attack the protozoa (the bacteria that cause white spot) in different ways in my case the white spot didnt respond to the protozin but 2 doses of ws3 cleared it in your case it seems the opposite. There seems to be a few strains of white spot around and some of them are very virulent

keep us updated with you progress.

I know what your saying about pets at home, mine is usually really bad too, always at least one fish in the tank looks unwell.

i have to admit i got 10 neon tetras and 4 ottos from pets at home and some bogwood, live plants and sand instead of gravel and so far (touch wood) i am really pleased. my tank looks the best its ever been by far and the only fault i can say with the fish is that 1. the neon tetras were mixed with some cardinal tetras and ended up with two cardinals, which i dont mind as it gives a bit more colour to the shoal. 2. the only problem with one of them is it has black markings on him, one of the cardinals, they gave me 2 cardinals 8 neons. which i still dont know what it is, im hoping he may have just been born like it, as he is swimming healthily with the shoal ect. just his apperence seems to be the problem?

3. which i love them for doing, is they give me a baby neon tetra that is just big enough for no one to eat and hes soooo cute! i love him

But the only reason why i got them from pets at home is my normal lfs i usually go to wasnt going to get neons or ottos in till tuesday, and i needed to get them in yesterday. My pets at home had just moved to the other end of the retail park and so had got new stock in and new tanks. i checked the tanks through and i must admit for pets at home they where pretty spotless! :good:

iv give them this chance, if anything goes rong then yes, never again, but if it goes mainly ok and next time i have a look and the fish look ok, then my pets at home may become my local LFS. who knows? :/

i hope you do report your pets at home as it may make a difference and i dont half feel sorry for some fish in really horrible condiotions.

My first LFS i ever went to was petstar i think its name was, something along those lines, and the tanks where distcusting! there was one with male guppys in AND females! and they where always breeding! there where guppys that where still alive trying to swim away from guppys eating them but she had no back fin to swim with, this was when we went back to get some more, i was about 15 at the time and i nearly broke out into tears! :-(

some of the tanks you could just see shadows of fish through all the algae! i have never seen such a mess before in my life, i was going to report it,but my friends mum was talking about it and she had reported it and her friend has aswell so...

i havent been in there since, however i hope there is a very big change. :(

thanks x

Hi lil-X-me...X. Welcome to our forum. I'm sure you will stay with us as we are an extremely friendly bunch. We are also a bit fish mad.
I'm glad your fish are doing ok or maybe you just got lucky. I was on another forum 5 days ago and they have a name and shame thread where you can name and shame your worst LFS, about 60% of members there named and shamed PETS AT HOME as the worst in all parts of the Uk. I wasn't surprised. The Pets at Home we have near us recently refurbished all there tanks and put in new stock of fish but they still have a problem with sick fish. I can't report them because they seem to get rid of the sick fish very quickly. I did ask them what they do with sick fish and they said we treat them in the quarantine tank. They have a small quarantine tank(27litre) and I have never seen any fish being treated in that tank. Fish shops should employ people with knowledge of fishkeeping and people who know how to care for fish.

Flass22 its odd you mentioned that there is a virulent form of whitespot. My small tank was clear and this morning my neon has whitespots again!
Whats happening? He was completely free of the whitespots. I know I asked earlier but is the whitespot bacteria becomming immune to treatment?

Its like any bacteria/virus tbh in time it will mutate and become resistant to treatment

once the white spot has disappered from the fish this is the next stage of the protozoa where thay fall to the substrait and breed this is the time to hit them with the meds as it kills them (like your doing/done now)

Hi guys.
Heres my update. The tetra in the smal tank has got whitespots again but this time they are'nt spread all over him, The spots are a lot smaller than before and he hasn't lost his colour.
In the big tank, my panda cory died this morning. I buried him today, said my goodbyes and thanked him for staying with us. Every time one of my little fishies dies they take a piece of my heart with them.
I am still having problems in the big tank. Two of my tetras are doing white stringy poo and a minnow looks like he has popeye. I am still treating the big tank with whitespot treatment and still have 3 days of treatment left. Should I continue the whitespot treatment or treat the tetras and minnow?
