Urgent! How Do I Treat 2 Illnesses?

I'm sorry Wilder I forgot to ask. Should I run the carbon in the filter for 24 hours? You said a day and I wasn't sure if you meant 12 hours or 24.

Poor cats I would report them to the rspca.
To many animals that havent gotten homes without making the problem worse.
Yes 24 hours just to be sure the meds out or you will overdose.

Could I use Pimafix with the Interpet Anti Whitespot treatment?

I've just sent hubby out today and hes got the Interpet Anti Whitespot treatment for me. I've read the ingredients and it says nothing about containing Protozin. Its ingredients say Formaldehyde 5,000mg, Malachite Green Oxalate 47mg and says it also contains methanol but no Protozin.
flash22 said that this treatment is the same as protozin, what did he/she mean?

The med fine I used it and it got rid of the whitespot.
Yes you can add pimafix with the whitespot med, but I would only half dose first to see how they handle it.

I just thought I'd let you know I have only the one tetra left in my small tank. As for the big tank two of the panda corys have small stubs left as tails and one panda (the one I have had for 7 months) has started going pale all over his tail. I went back to Pets at Home today and they said if I bring the fish back I will get a refund. I took some water samples and told them that I was treating both tanks with whitespot treatment they said the stats for the small tank were fine but the big tank was high on the ammonia and nitrite and a little high on nitrate. I asked for the exact numbers but they didn't give them. They always seem to have a problem with giving water stats. They showed me the vials and the colours were Purple, dark pink and blue I think. They advised me to do a water change and then get the water retested 4 days later. I did tell them that I was treating the tanks and the treatment says not to do a water change.
The pandas were still eating properly yesterday and I haven't fed them today(yet) so don't know if they're still hungry. I'll get back after feeding time and let you know.

Some meds can knock water stats.
You can do water changes during treatment, you just add the correct amount of med back to water removed.
I would cut down on feeding for a few days.
Do the lfs use liquid test kits or strip cards.

Liquid tests.

I forgot to ask. Do you think I should take the fish back (knowing the LFS reputation) or do you think they stand a better chance of recovery with me?

sorry aquababy i missed this thread

protozin is the name of the med it contains the same ingredients as the Interpet Anti Whitespot (Formaldehyde, Malachite Green)

sorry to say its not looking good for ya we can only hope thay pull through (been through all this myself not to long ago)

Hi flash22. Thanks for the explanation. I was about to do a bit of online research today to find out for myself. I was curious to know what you meant. The Interpet Antiwhitespot treatment does seem to be working better and I'm not having to dose the tank every 48hours for over two weeks with only one water change after 10days. I have only one tetra left in the small tank. He looks so lonely. He had tiny bit of food to eat yesterday and even though he still looks tattered his colour has started to come back.
In the big tank all 3 pandas have rotting tails but are still eating and still active. The two peppered corys look fine and all other fish in the big tank seem to be unaffected. When I put the 2 pandas in the peppered corys had started flicking so I started the WS3 treatment. I cleared the tank of all meds did a water change and then started the Interpet Anti whitespot treatment. None of the other fish have shown signs of whitespot but that could be because I started treatment straightaway. I assumed it was whitespot because the corys were flicking even though the corys didn't have any whitespots but then wilder did say that corys rarely get whitespots.
I hope you are wrong and the fish do recover. I only have two choices. I can keep them and treat them or take them back. I went to Pets at Home yesterday and all the sick fish had gone. There was plenty of fresh new fish in the tanks. I know the LFS get their fish delivery every Friday. I asked them what they had done with the sick fish and the reply was"what sick fish". I'm not sure if that was answer or question.

How are the fish doing now.

Iv'e just finished feeding the neon in the small tank. He looked like he was surely going to die a couple of days ago and I was thinking about asking the hubby to euthanise him. I'm glad I didn't because he looks almost recovered today. His colour has returned and his spots are all gone. Hes eating and swimming and looks healthier than ever.
All my fish are doing well in the big tank. The two new pandas corys are playing, eating and healthy even though they have stubs for tails. The only one I have concerns for is my 7 month old panda who has what looks like fungus ( white/cloudy stuff) spreading on him. It started with his tail and I thought he would lose his tail also but it has continued to spread and is on his fins and face. He still has his tail but has lost his appetite. I am doing the second dose of the Interpet Anti Whitespot treatment tommorrow and have been putting in half a dose of Pimafix. I have also stopped feeding them every day and feed the fish and miss a day. I will try and attach some photos as soon as possible.

I hope everyone is having a fabulous start to the new year. I'm hoping mine is fish disease free.

If the worst affected fish gets any worse it might be kinder to end his misery bless him.
Glad there some improvement.
Good Luck.

I can't help feeling I'm to blame for my pandas condition. I spent most of my time worrying and trying to help the tetras recover and didn't notice the signs of sickness in the big tank. Do you think I could have transfered some disease via the siphon.
The two pandas without tails are behaving normal. They are very happy, eating, chasing, playing and showing no signs of ever being ill. The only way you could tell is from the stubs they have as tails and even they are healed and slightly starting to grow back. My older panda has lost his tail and looks like hes covered in cotton wool. He doesn't move around as much and still doesn't have an appetite. I'm very worried for him and I know even though you suggessted euthanising him but I keep praying he makes it. I will continue to do everything I can to help him but if he decides he can't go on any more the I will ask my hubby to take care of him for me.
I'll let you know what happens.
How long do you think I should wait before transfering the tetra in the small tank into the big one ?
