Got my hairgrass and riccia today. It was delivered to work. I'm not sure what to do...leave the plants in the bags inside the box (I'm in an air conditioned room, but it's not that cool really), or to use my lunch box...fill with some water and put the plants in there for now?

Will tap water be OK for them?

Sam

mmm I can't see anything wrong in putting the in some tap water. I had the same concern a few weeks ago when I bought some large amazons but knew I wouldn't be able to get them home for 7 hours. I just put them in a large tub of tap water and they look great now - obviously having been in the fish tank since that evening.

thanks guys, I've put it in tap water!

Seems like theres duckweed in there :( And the hairgrass is a bit brown :( Not so lucky this time.

the riccia will be fine whatever you do with it so long as you dump it in the tank tonight (mine came to work as well)

as to the hairgrass which kind did you get? was it in pots or in clumps rooted in a kind of cloth strip?

mine was the latter and needed a bit of fiddling with before planting.

i assume this lot came from greenline?

yeah from greenline. The riccia looks really good, very green...just has duckweed in it. will be sorting it out very carefully.

The grass is half brown and yeah its the clumps. Like I got it when I got my mix pack. But it was better condition then.

Can you read my other post asking for help on light and fertilisers? I reckon I need to sort something out to help my hair grass grow.

i've added a reply to the thread.

when i got that hairgrass i split it into clumps of 6/7 strands and planted it seperatly. that is the stuff front left in my sig. it seems to grow really tall although i haven't touched it for 4 weeks or so (since planting).

it's a bit of a hassle splitting it i got lazy and just cut it off in strips straight across the roots seems to be alive still.

I have had plant delivered to my office twice and I just left them as they wee. They generaly are packaged very well and shuld be fine until you get home and can start putting them in your tank. As a matter of fact, the last time I ordered plants, I got too many. I left about 6 plants sitll wrapped in the wet paper and in the zip-loc bags they came in. They were still in great shape a week later when I finally found a place to put them.
