What about rummynose or neon tetras? If so how many could I keep?
Would sparkling gouramis be ok alone or would one male and two females be better? Or does it matter?
I'm starting to drive myself a bit mad cos I'm overthinking it....
As for a feature fish, think I'll rule out the blue acara, though they look stunning.

Ok, I've added 9 Neon tetras. Can I get many more fish in this tank do you reckon? I was thinking of maybe 6ish of the Phantoms and also a feature fish or two.

What about Apistos or Bolivian Rams?
Rummy nose tetras, Black/red phantom tetras or Harliquin rasboras?
Should I get a couple more Neons to add to my 8?
