Hi, I currently have a 10G and have purchased a 20G. My plan was to put a bit of the gravel from my 10G and some of the water into my 20G. Also, I was going to put a pump/filter in my 20G that I have on my 10G (I have 2 on my 10G) for a bit of time as well to help with the cycling, (while running the new pump that came with the tank).
Would this work? Or do I have to cycle the new 20G for a month?

Thanks.

that would work. are you keeping the filters on the 20g perminitally? if not use the media from your 10g in your 20g for alittle while.

and welcome to TTF!!

thanks for the reply,
I have a new higher GPH filter/pump with the 20G, so I planned on using the smaller filter for a short while, but will use the existing media/filter to help with the cycling. I was hoping between the existing media/filter, water, and the bit of gravel, this would give the eco-system a good quickstart.
How long would you suggest before I can move my fish over to the 20g? A few days, a week?

are you moving your fish from the ten to the 20? Will you be keeping anything in the 10?

If you answered yes and then no then you can move your fish as soon as your water reaches the correct temperature in the 20 gal.

Yup, all the fish will go from the 10 to the 20. Good. I was hoping I could make this switch as quickly as possible.
thanks and thanks.

I did almost an identical upgrade. Click here to read about how my upgrade went.

Moral of the story is... I didn't have to wait for cycling at all; was already present.
