I plan on replacing my old 100ltr tank with a new 180ltr one. Problem is that I want to put the new one in the same place. What is the best way to do this? Obviously I need to remove a lot of water to lift it, but what do I do with the fish in the meantime and, as the new tank is nearly twice the capacity of the old one, will I need to do any cycling, or will adding the water, gravel, ornaments etc be enough? Also, providing the water being added to the new tank is the correct temp. and treated with water safe how soon before I can put the fish in, or should I keep the fish in the old tank for a while after setting the new one up?
Questions, questions, questions.

Advice I've received is to set a new tank up for a few days just to make sure the filter/heater etc work okay. Of course if you're swapping the equipment over from the old tank this isn't necessary (as long as you're sure the new tank is watertight - would be horrible to swap it all over then have to swap it all back cos you've got a leak!). If you use (some of) the gravel from the old tank plus the filter media from there, you won't need to use the water which should make it easier not having to have loads of buckets around :D Just make sure that the water you fill the new tank with is, of course, dechlorinated and matches the ph and temp of the old water. If you can get a large bucket or brewing bin thing, put the fish in there with some old water, an air stone, the filter and heater, and they should be okay while you dismantle the old tank and set up the new one.

fish seem pretty resilient - i've changed the substrate and 100% of the aquascaping with the fish still in the tank and they just glared at me some.... so I'm sure you'll be okay.

If I've told you anything that's wrong, or if there's any more good advice (which I'm sure there is) I know someone else on here will tell you.
