Hi Guys,

a few weeks back I noticed that my mother-in-law had an ornada goldfish in a tank that was 16 litres plus..

So I thought I would get a tank I could afford and got an Aqua-65 (65 litres)for time being. I know this is still wayyy to small but it was better then 16 litres right?

The tank is fully cycled and the levels are pretty much perfect.

I have now purchased a 3 foot tank that holds 125 litres and has a Fluval U3 filter. (all that I have space/money for right now).

I wanted to know what the best way of getting the tank prepared.

I have been told to squeeze my current filter into the tank etc to speed things up.

I understand the Nitrate cycle but I wasnt sure if there was anything I can use from the previous tank to speed things up as I want the poor guy in a bigger tank.

Since going in the Aqua -65 and have clean water conditions he has also started to grow his Wen so I assume thats a good sign.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

You can take the filter media and move it over to the new tank. If you want to keep fish in the 65l then you can take up to 1/3 of the media to seed the new filter.
I hope that made sense! Good on you for getting him a bigger tank! :) I'd love to see some pictures.

Thanks for the advise :)

Well I think I will need to keep him in the  65 until the 120 is  cycled with the new filter.

I will definatly upload some pictures once it is all setup:D

Thanks again!

If you move over all of the filter media then it should be fine, since the media has the appropriate amount of bacteria to deal with his waste.
Or do you have fish other than him in the 65l?

You can just cycle the new one like you say you're going to, just he can go in there faster if you move the media over :) How are you cycling the tanks btw?

Hi,

It will just be him going in so I could just put him in there then with both filters running until the new filter generates the bacteria?

I did a fishless cycle for the 65 litre,  I kept the filter running and I purchased some ammonia from The range (a shop here in the uk).

So I added the appropriate ammount of ammonia  etc..  I followed the fishless cycle guide on this forum.

But If I can avoid it I dont want to have two tanks up and running for 6weeks+ whilst I did another fishless cycle.

So If putting both filters in would work I will do that until the new filter takes.

Take the media out of the filter that is running on the 65l, and put it into the filter that is on the 125l, that's all you have to do :) Sorry if I wasn't clear about it

Just wanted to make sure about the cycling. Good job!

Ahh, Thats not possible as the filter I have for the new tank is the fluval U3. and the pads are specially shaped to fit the filter.

Unless there is a way I could cram it in.

I will keep you posted with how it goes :)

You can cut the filter media and put it in, I'd think. Good luck :)
