I have a 30 Gallon established tank, I've had it for a few months and I am looking to make some changes to the stock, I just want opinions on what others think.
I am in the process of saving up for a 50-55 gallon 'kit setup' from a local store, but for the mean time I have my 30 gal, a 20 Gal Betta Sorority and a 5 Gal tank for my male Betta.
(And I'm trying to get my 'rents to be okay with having a larger tank) They've been good with the three tanks I have, but I think to get a larger tank I'll have to take at least one of the other two down
Anyways, my 30 gal has:
2 Male Gold Honey Gourami
1 Male Sunset Honey Gourami
1 Male BNP
1 Zebra Danio
5 Panda Corys
I know, not the best set up.
I had 6 Danios but I sold them and he was the one I couldn't catch so I had to leave him, it's not by choice...As for the three Gourami, when I got them from the store it was very difficult to gender them and I ended up with three males.
So to the point; I want to start planning for when I get the 50-55 gal.
I am not really satisfied with my Gourami's, as they don't have very much personality. I am thinking of taking two back and hopefully getting two female Gourami's, I'm hoping this may make them more engaging, as they are now they are the only colorful fish in the tank but seem oddly shy.
Also, I had a female Perl gourami for many months and she was lovely, but she became too much of a bully for the other fish in the tank and so I had to re-home her. I was hoping to get a pair of Pearls at some point, but I don't know if the Pearls would be to aggressive for the Honeys or what, there is certainly a size difference there....
I was hoping to have (When I get the 50-55)
-2 Pearl Gourami (1:1) f/m
-3 Honey Gourami (2:1) f/m
-6-10 Cherry Barbs (I want a schooling fish that isn't overly active like my Danio's proved to be and I've heard Cherry barbs are okay in that regard) if anyone had some other suggestions in this department I'm open to suggestions.
-3-5 Platys (I have a soft spot for platys, they were the first fish I purchased when I got into the hobby) (Possibly 1 male to 2more females)
-6 Panda Corys
-2 BNP (1:1) f/m
I was wondering if anyone saw any compatibility issues or had any insight or suggestions.
As for the tech side,
The kit comes with:
a top fin 60 power filter, I know kits are bad for being underpowered for filters, but I don't know if I should spring for a canister filter or if the filter from my 30 gal (a whisper ex 45 power filter) would be a good enough addition to fully filter the tank
It also comes with 2 fluorescent lights in the hood, which I would switch out for full spectrum.
I don't know if the heater would be powerful enough for the tank, it's a 200W UL heater. 9Again I could always add the heater from my 30 gal to boost the heat if need be.
Is there anything else I should be considering?? (Sorry, I'm rushed now so I shall be back later with more information if required and most certainly more questions to ask)
