I had some problems with my first fish tank; I overstocked, and while my fish are small, I have heard that some will outgrow this tank. But in April, I may be getting either a 55 or a 75 (though the first one is more likely). I will be able to keep my 20 gallon though. Since I will get bigger fish for the bigger tank, I have some smaller ones that should stay in the original tank for their own safety. Which fish should I move into my new tank, and which ones can stay? I'll list mine here

7 Marbled Hatchetfish
1 Honey Gourami
2 Angelfish
3 Sepia Tetras
1 Female Crowntail Betta
3 Corydoras Catfish

Thanks. :)

Angel fish are the only ones who really need a bigger tank and i would keep the betta alone just cause lol...the rest could stay in the 20 IMO...

If i were you i would get the 75 gallon tank! i have a 55 and i want a bigger one lol, you'll always wish you got the bigger one...

Also i've never heard of or seen Sepia tetras, but you should add 3 more (when you get the bigger tank), most tetras like to be in larger groups if possible

Thanks for the advice. :) And the Tetras.... 2 of them swim together, but the third seems to be left out. And uhh I forgot the exact name of these Tetras, it might have been like a Sepae Tetra? I'm spelling it wrong, but they are orange. But I'd gladly add 3 more when I get the new tank. :)

3 Sepia Tetras

Do you mean Serpae tetras, if you do, these a very nippy tetras and should not be kept with angel fish or bettas due to the damage they could do to the angels and the female bettas fins. The more of them you have, the more they nip each other rather than your other fish.

I think I agree with poster above, I would move the angels out. Ensure your new tank has at least 18" in height from the top of the substrate to the water line, this will give sufficient space for these tall finned fish.

The other thing I would do is to up the numbers on the corries to 6, they prefer groups and appear more active in higher numbers.

What kinds of fish do you actually want for the new tank, this may affect what stays and what moves.

EDIT spelling

Thank you, yes they are Serpae Tetras. Sorry for the mixup. :)

My Tetras, they never seem to pay any attention to the Betta, or any of their other tankmates... but if I are to get more of them, I'll move the bunch to the bigger tank.

I am not sure of what I am putting in my new tank yet. I want a peaceful tank... fish I would be interested in would be Killifish, Rams, and.... I don't know what other different ones yet. A school of Neons would be nice, but the Angelfish could get nippy so I'm still debating this. I would love 2 Discus but they are rare and not to mention pricey. And possibly a Severum but I am not sure if they are aggressive or not; my dad owned one years ago and claims it was not aggressive but some sites say they are... do you know if they are?

I woulndt mix any tetras with Angels, they will nip at its fins...Discus require alot of attention, water changes every 3-4 days, feeding 3 times a day...Severums are generally peacful, but you could end up with one on a war path lol, it all depends on the fish maybe try and find member MarkAndHisFish and ask about the Sevs, i know he loves them and would be able to help you with them
