so my first post was for a 55, well for free on CL, they had a 75 gallon, so I want to stay away from the canister filters at all cost, dont want powerbill to go up, and they are not my fav filter anyway, so a angelfish based 75, would a Emp 400 and a tetra 40 gallon filter be enough, i have 2 EMPs but for power bill sake, would this be good.

How much energy do the emp 400 and the tetra 40 take to run, ie. wattage?

You may find that running one single external will be as energy efficient as running two HOB's. You also need to take into account the running costs of media replacement, etc. for two filters instead of one.

not sure on wattage i will check, also just scared i will mess the canister filter, getting carpet wet is critical.. that sonds dumb.. i graduated moved out and had some nice tanks, kept in basment, so water spillige was no biggie, concret floors, moved home for collage and Aunt is hardcore abour getting carpet wet.. my last canisters did well but i had a few floods when trying to mess with it.. I pay half the power bill so power is important but the flood is part is serious.. i am sure it doesnt happen to everyone, maybe it is my inexperiance with them. youtube, isnt really helping on the subject..
thanks though, seems you are my go to guy at moment, lol

ps... i am 23, moved back home, i am not one of those creepy 40 years moving back in to go to school, lol

Total wattage of all the appliances running on the tank will give you a value of 'x'

'x' multiplied by 1000 gives you your kilowatt rating

With that you can find out the hourly cost of your tank (if you know how much the energy company charges for a kWh.

If leaks are your concern then sit the canister filter in a bucket maybe to catch drips, especially when doing maintenance on it or throw a towel down before messing with it. I personally would be more concerned (not that i am at all) about the gallons of water being held in the air by glass and silicone rather than a small plastic container with engineered water tight seals :)

1005 agree with you on the tank full of water part, the emps are 19 watts, so i will do the math thanks.. yea i was thinking of a bucket for changes... thanks... guess i just need to bite the bullet and mess with it.
