updated to a tidal 110 today…

I now have mostly tidal hob filters now, as they work best for my power 1/3 water changes…

a couple Tidal 55’s, but most are the Tidal 75’s … one quit working, because of all the pothos vine roots, so I decided to try a Tidal 110… all are of similar design, just are progressively larger…

it seems like on a rapidly flowing tank, the larger the filter the better…

I have a seasoned 75 running in the tank, and have the 110 just running to cycle right now…

Good luck with them. I am not a big fan of Seachem. I do use their Excel and Equilibrium. But I much prefer the Tropica plant ferts which I have used now for close to 25 years. Because my water is not chlorinated, I only use dechlor after bleach dipping plants and when I would sell at weekend events and have to use some of the hotel's tap water. I have both Amquel and Prime for these needs.

But for HOBs I am a dedicated AquaClear user. I have my first two ACs running today. One, the 150 (30) I bought used in 2002 or 03. It is still running today. The second was a 200 (50) I put into my first tank when I had to remove the UGF/RUGF in 2002. I have only had one non-AC hang-on in use for any amount of time. I have the smallest size Whisper on my 5.5 gal. planted shrimp tank. I do not remember how I came by this filter. I also ran an Eheim hang-on for a number of years. I really liked this filter. The problem was it was only made in a few sizes and I needed bigger for a number of my tanks. I sold that Eheim filter used at a weekend event.

To the best of my knowledge Tidal filters were first being sold in 2016 so they have been around for about a decade. I wonder how many of those sold in 2016 have been running since then? Some of my Aquaclears have been in use for over two decades. That first one I got used has to have been running for at least 25 years now, 23 for me.

One last observation/question. AquaClears come with flow control which allows one to reduce the GPG by up to 50% of its capacity. I wonder if you can do this with Tidal? One advantage to this feature is it means you can get larger filter holding much more media which would normally have too high a flow rate for some tanks. So, by turning the flow down you can have a desired GPH but with a filter that holds twice the media as a smaller model with the same maximum flow rate as the larger filter does when turned down.

Hello. I don't use much in the way of filtration. A DEGGOX electric power filter is good for a bit of water movement. I mainly rely on large, weekly water changes for my Brassy Minnow tank. These are an extremely hardy fish and acclimated easily from their pond near my home to their 55 gallon tank. Forty or so work well together in a species only tank. They grow pretty slowly and don't spawn until around a year old, so they have plenty of time to mature and produce healthy fry. They love "Bug Bites" and don't require anything else in the way of nutrition. A nice fish.

Love the tidal. Only discovered them in 2019 but my 55 hasn’t skipped a beat. I can only recall cleaning the impeller twice in that time.

@TwoTankAmin … yes the tidal’s allow a variable amount of flow, as well as an adjustment on the amount of flow from a few levels within the tank, plus they always just restart when I begin filling during water changes where the water level drops below the pick up, which as my main issue with the AC’s… my water changes are typically 1/3 of he tank volume, and powered both in and out so i can do them quite quickly… having the filter pumps self starting saves me a great amount of time
