id keep it if i were you but id have it planted with vallis then have sand

then have tons of neons and a big group of corys

and two centre piece fish like rams or somthng

dunno why but i have always wanted to get a rio 400 and stock it like this as the neons would look great

but thats just me

i like your scaping and fish aswell

i fancy sand, but ive had it in the past and it was smelly

..maybe i just did something wrong :/ ( like use it in an oscar tank  )
but i agree with what your saying it would look fab :)

dont say that

lol ive got sand in my 9ft and its a monster fish tank like O's

oh god XD

looking good shelagh. you know youre gonna keep it!! when you say your sand got smelly was it a rotten eggy kinda smell? if so its just gas buildup in the sand to stop it just "stir" the sand around every few days to release it.

Looking good hon, if your going to go for sand, go black is my advice, dont have it too thick (as your not planting really) and in a community wont get too messy, each water change, stir it up a bit, in fact if you get black sand like I have, which is large(ish) grained, you can actually vac it and it doesnt go up the syphon, makes things easier.

Nice set up! :good:

+ Minx? i did'nt think you could get grained sand?

You can get larger grained sand than the playsand variety, mine for instance is approx 1mm size (limpopo black) and doesnt go up the syphon so can vac same as gravel :good:

.. but i cant remember ever stirring it so i guess your right.. Bae dont worry..see, i was doing it wrong

I've found MTS have been really really useful with helping turn sand over and keep it gas free. And unlike most people I don't seem to have had a population boom...so I have nothing but positives for them.

agreed 100%. mts are wonderful at keeping sand turned. the reason you didnt have a population explosion is that you dont overfeed the tank. ive got these in all my sandy tanks. the certainly earn their keep

lovely tank and fish shelagh! love your wood!
cheers

Aqua essentials Mark, needs lots and lots of washing though :good:

cheers minx is it expensive? also is it still fine enough to not damage corys mouths?

£14.99 a bag (12.5kg) plus delivery, I only used one bag in my 125g Mark, ok so its not deep, but doesnt need to be and its perfectly fine for corydoras and geophagus, its very soft, just slightly larger grained than playsand :good:
