When do i know its the right time to release her from the chimney
Male been in breeding tank 4 or 5 days
Shakira (girl) been in breeding tank same time but seperated unable to see each other

both been being conditioned for that time being fed 3 times a day on bloodworm , daphnia and bio gold

Shakira has been in chimney for 2 days now - Remy (male has built a huge nest )

Remy constantly displaying to Shakira - she is very eggy but i cant see stripes as she is a cambodian with light pink fins

When do i release Shakira ??? - dont want to do it the wrong time

Yes i have all the stuff needed for breeding already - pots tank etc - have read lots just would like some advice from someone who has already done it

Breeding tank is 40 litres of 60 litre tank - temp 80-82 degrees (alters slightly with lights on ) - real plants - filter in divided section only - at the moment
water lever 6 inches - sand substrate ( would have preferred bare bottom but tank already set up )
Floating pet food lid - which started off the bubble nesting

If he is displaying to her, and he has built a bubblenest, then I would put them together now and see what happens. If he is interested in breeding then he will show off and display to her. If he isn't ready yet then he will chase her away, usually into a corner. If that happens then separate them for another day and then try again.

Ok will add her in the morning see how it goes , thanks hun :)

Even if he chases her don't be so quick to take her out! I have never spawned a pair yet with out the female being chased into hiding by the male, as long as there are plenty of places for her to hide she should be fine :good: every now and then she should appear to have a look at his nest, this means she is deffo interested! the chasing, hiding and appearing again can go on for quite sometime, she may get a few torn fins but this is normal so do not worry :) they will eventually begin to wrap under the nest if all goes well, if things don't go too well for instance she destroys his nest or fails to comply i.e ignores him put her back in the chimney and keep conditioning for a couple more days.
Good Luck! :good:

Cheers hun she's dipping her head to him every time he swims past so things looking good am going to give her 12 hours in the tank from tomorrow morning and if nothing happens then chimney her again

Thanks for the help

OK have had another girl conditioning at the same time
so after no luck with shakira , i placed the other girl (she hasn't a name) in the chimney
5 hours later she's swimming with her head down

So i released her

Remy went over and displayed sideways to her , she followed him straight to the nest and away they went wrapped right away

Hi Colin
I realise the OP has had a spawning now, but thought i would just clarify a few things for people reading and wanting to breed.

It is normal for the male to chase the female, but this is all part of the courtship so never be too hasty to pull the female out. You only need to pull her out if she is receiving too much damage. She will get nipped, this is pretty much inevitable.

Some males will not build a nest until the female is released, so with some males you need to release her to encourage the male to build.

Just thought people should realise that this, as if you keep pulling the female every time they are chased, it could upset the spawning completely.

i'm prepared that Remy might eat the eggs as it is his first time as a daddy , fingers crossed though
but if he does i'll leave him a week or so then re condition him and a couple of ladies and try again

Hi Stevefish

thanks for clarifying that for everyone. I should have been a little more in-depth with my statement, rather than just keeping it short :)
