Well Tyson's fins are growing nicely, and actually have some red through them now rather than purely light blue. Is this a side-effect of fin rot or could it just be a natural colour change? He has no indication of still having white spot and seems happy as can be. He's feeding as well, and has started coming up to the front of the tank to greet me again and flaring at his reflection. My only thing is, Tyson has only ever made one bubble nest when we actually bought him - which we had not known it was a bubble nest. Tyson was bought before I knew anything about betta's, so I thought it was foam at the top of his tank, and my boyfriend sort of mixed it up to get rid of it in case it was anything that was going to harm Tyson. We had actually thought it had come from the filter or something. Is this the reason he's never done one again? His conditions are exactly the same as they were then, and he's acting normally now like I've said. I'm not overly worried about it, just wondering! I'm just glad my boy's recovering now!

Hi Cara, glad the girls are OK and settling in nicely.

As for Tyson not bubble blowing maybe he has just got lazy, not all my males blow bubble nests or bubbles for that matter even when they are happy.

It isn't a big issue when not spawning, however if he still doesn't do it when breeding him then just cut up a small piece of bubble wrap and float that in the tank (I usually put a small square of poly foam on top so that it gives it a solid look for the fish) and or floating plants, any pathetic bubbles he does blow will either be put into the air pockets of the bubble wrap or if he prefers plants they will catch it under their leaves. Then when they eventually get eggs they should sit in the air pockets provided till they fry hatch.

Good luck.

 This is driving me nuts. Just yesterday his fins were looking awesome and growing. Now today their all rips and tatty again. I ended up doing a total clean out of his tank because bits of fins were floating about. There's nothing at all in his tank that could be ripping them, I narrowed him down to having a small cave and his favourite silk plant he likes to rest on during the day. And that's just one of those red leaf ones, so there's no way on earth that could rip them! Is this a tail biting case? I hope not, I have NO room for another tank to get another male to keep him occupied. Even if I did find space, that would be 4 tanks... bit too much for me. I couldn't even move him next to the sorority tank, it's got its own stand in a corner of the living room..ack, I'm so annoyed.

I've ended up moving him back into the kitchen, where he had(some relation to this topic) built his first nest, and seemed to really like it in there. Even now as soon as I've moved him he's out swimming about instead of moping around.

Anyone have any suggestions/thoughts?
