1 week into set up of new tank, with new filter, etc. 1/4 of tank filled with water from old tank, and due to probs with other tank fish had to come across with it.

Pleased to say no deaths so far, and fish looking healthy and enjoying the new environment.

Plants put into tank yesterday, making it almost complete. :good:

Water samples all been ok, tested every other day at the minute.

Thanks to everyone who's answered all my questions so far, greatly appreciated.

Will continue to update, waiting another 2-3 weeks before adding some more fish.

It's only been set up a week? Did you cycle the filter, or was it the filter from the pervious tank?

Glad to hear everything is going ok though, keep up with those water checks.

Didn't have chance to cycle the filter, due to problems with the old tank. That's why I'm so surprised no problems so far, but ever so glad that's the case!

You have taken a big risk there, i will be surprised if you dont lose quite a few fish because the tank needs to be cycled before the fish are added.

His saving grace was that he transferred a pile of water from the old tank, and along with it bacteria, microbes etc which should sustain the tank until the new filter takes control. Not ideal, but since he did state that he didnt have an option, its probably the best he could do.

fingers crossed :good:

I know it was a big risk BUT no other choice.

Took a water sample to the LFS on Saturday, Nitrate was slightly up. Stopped feeding the fish till Tuesday, and water change Saturday, tonight and then Wednesday.

Still no fish deaths, and to my surprise I have got 6 small fish that keep popping out from under my rocks for a swim before quickly going back in!!!!! Never had any babies in the old tank, and had that for about 4 years

Am I right in thinking that water doesn't actually contain any of the ammonia eating bacteria? :look:
