here's how my first attempt at planting in a bigger tank has worked out - 40 galls with 3 months growth now

The tint in the water is starting to go now - hmm - I think I quite liked it though

I wanted to try for a natural look - so I guess wild is the word! ;) I'm not using any CO2 as I have really soft water which goes acidic with the bogwood in the tank and I can't afford to lower the pH anymore - I'm buffering it as it is with coral sand. Lighting is the standard tubes that came with the Juwel tank - gives me 1.5W per gall.

The plants tried have been the low light ones so far and its really been a case of trying ones out and seeing which do well. They're growing well with minimal input from me - so I can't take too much credit - I just bunged them in and feed them now and again. :) Gonna put some others in soon

you can call me crazy but i bought the hagen co2 kit and my ph actual rose by from around 7.2 to 7.8 with the co2.

i think it's cause they put baking soda as a buffer, which raises pH.

anyway, all my fish adapted fine since the co2 takes about 2-3 days to really start coming out. they were all fine when the yeast died off and stopped producing co2 too
