Hi all...i posted a few weeks ago about my two males that got into a fight in their new divided home...one managed to wriggle trough an "overlooked" opening in the divider and of course, there was a fight, leaving the two very ragged looking...i asked for some advice on the best treatment for them until i was POSITIVE there would be no secondary infections to their fins...i received some great advice and just wanted to update those of you who replied to my pleas of help...THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH...THEY NEVER GOT SICK AND ARE DOING VERY WELL!!
the two boys are VERY HEALTHY and happily co-existing in their divided tank...it is nicely planted with some fast-growers (anacharis/milfoil <---to not only make the tank look nice and give some cover, but also i have a turtle that LOVEEEEEES anacharis...sometimes hard to find at the LFS and i thought id grow some so i have a steady supply)...we do CO2 injection (with yeast/sugar in a soda bottle) in there with adequit lighting for the plants...the amount of O2 these plant produce on a given day is INCREDABLE...they just bubble away all day! (theCO2 injection is SOOOO easy and helps like the dickens!)...the water is tested almost daily and levels of ammonia are steady at 1, nitrites rising, but yet to see any nitrates...daily "spot cleaning" with a turkey baster...occasional doses of flourish for the plants...pH is stable @7...water treated with melafix for their little fins and pinch of salt for good measure...a few rouge snails in there (hitched a ride on the plants, but DO keep the plants very clean...just waiting for the EXPLOSION of snails that will likely occur...ill deal with the road when it comes my way....BUT...the boys are doing VERY well and their beautiful fins are growing back rapidly and look wonderful...their home looks wonderful too.
im so very relieved that these little fish i "rescued" are doing well after the "big bout"...thanks to all who helped us out! the fish appreciate it too
