Only two I could think of even close to the desc. :)

so yea, i told her about what you guys said and she said she isnt going to get rid of any of her fish, she said she likes all of them and wouldnt be able to get rid of any of them...

i told her that the fish could die and she said they look fine to her..

:/

Shame. Hopefully you can persuade her otherwise. Otherwise, well, it probably won't end well for the little guys. That overstock is immense :(

Hmmm...tell her these facts...

Clown Loach - Grow up to 14" and should be kept in groups of 4 or more. They should also live for at least 20 years! They need a 75gal tank to grow properly.

Bala Shark - Grow up to 14" and should be kept in groups of 4 or more. These should also live for at least 15years. They need a 6ft tank of at least 100gal to allow them to grow to their full size. They are very active fish and need the room to swim aswell as grow.

Discus - How long has it been in the tank? Discus are notoriously hard to keep. I would expect it to be dead within 6months in those conditions. They should live to around 10 years old.

The fish above are the reason that the tank has green water.
Not only is she killing them, but she wont be able to see her fish unless she gets rid of the unsuitable ones.
And it's not that the fish 'could' die. They WILL die of premature deaths.

They only show symptoms around 24-48 hours before they die. Until then they will swim around looking and acting normally as the permenant damage is done to their gills and nervous system.
Then one day they will start gasping for air, perhaps encounter swim bladder issues and will then die.

And if it isn't the ammonia poisoning that gets them, they it will be the stunted growth. Their organs will still grow at the normal rate even though their bodies do not. This causes internal pressure which can cause swim bladder issues aswell as a slow painful death. :(

At the end of the day they ARE her fish. And what she decides to do is up to her.

But just make sure she knows the facts.
When they die prematurely(at only a couple of years old as opposed to over 15!), it will be directly down to her.

This geinuinely makes me a bit :(
but what can I do.

I agree with curiosity101, beg her if you have to.

I don't mean to sound harsh but what she is doing is cruel and she is being selfish by making these fish suffer just because she "likes them"

Please do all you can to convince her, i'm sure she'll come round once she knows the facts.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them get rid of their fish! Seriously though, I doubt she will get rid of them and one day she will wonder why they all died and shrug it off to some unknown factor instead of her torture. It's sad.

so i talked to her, the only fish she would let me take out are the 2 sicccor tail fish...

when i was taking out fish i was like, how about those, she said no i like those, so i said fine ow about that one, she said no i like that one, those? nope i like those ones, so the only ones she let me take out are the siccor tail... fat lot of good thats going to do.. but its a start...

also, i was doing a 20% water change and i took a peek at the filter, it had a good half inch of build up on the filter, i told her she needs to buy a new filer, she laughed and said she just got one 2 weeks ago, and i said i know, its time to buy a filter, she says i only buy one once a month...

so i took her filter out and cleaned it as best as best i could in the water i pulled out of her tank, it got its color back and water is flowing good again threw it, the whole 5 gallon bucket of water was absolutly black, filthy nasty gunky black. ill keep working at her, trying to pull fish out.

what'ya think?

All you can do is your best. :) Getting the filter working and processing as much fish waste as possible is the most important part atm.

Does she not understand why her water is green compared to yours?

Maybe show her this actual thread?

if she wants to keep them despite the consequences, why not get a bigger aquarium? an 80 gal wouldn't be quite big enough, but it will be MUCH better than her 30.
