Unusual Behavior

Tank is 5 gallons with Oliver and 2 cory catfish.

You need to do water changes more often than 50%every 2 weeks. I take 25-40% twice a week from Dunc's 5 gal hex in order to keep his stats stable ( it is also filtered ) . Also cories need to be in bigger groups as they are very social little things.( which would require more space ) .

I am a college student and did not have transportation to get a siphon until then so I had to make do. I plan to make more frequent water changes.
I wanted a larger group of cories but my tank can't support it, and a bigger tank is not an option with the limits that our college has for fish tank space. They are doing fine and enjoy each other's company though they aren't in an ideal shoal.

do you have a topfin 5 gallon setup Morphkid? I have 3 of em .

Just wondering cuz the whisper filters on them are not marked 5i, 10i, 20i, etc. ... and they are adjustable.

More bubbles = lower water level. that is all. I could just see the bubbles, and the filter looked like it was pushing out quite a bit of current ;)

With a single betta, would do OK with a 50% water change every 2 weeks... but with cories, you need to be doing water changes as close to what Honeythorn said as possible.

I actually have an Eclipse 5 gallon setup and the filter has "Whisper Mini" written on it, along with the instruction manual specifying the brand and model. I really like it, it's a very nice tank. :) I've now got the filter on the lowest setting it can go and the water is much more still.

Yeah, I'm planning on doing a 25% or 50% change every week or so. Does that sound right, or should I change that?

Did a 25% water change tonight, all seems well. Held a mirror up for Oliver to flare at and oh my gosh! He's developed the most BEAUTIFUL small dark blue spots on his fins! I was so excited to see these, they weren't there when I bought him. They are definitely color related, not any sort of illness. :D

I can't really help you but it seems that everyone else has helped enough. Anyway, I just wanted to say that you betta looks exactly like mine!!! :hyper:

Oliver has continued this behavior and it's worrying me... I think his stomach is a little bloated now, I will buy and feed him a pea tomorrow. Any suggestions on anything else I should do? I am also probably going to pick up a nitrate test just in case there is a spike of some sort. Any more suggestions/opinions?

Here's a quick video I took. Sorry for the poor quality and please excuse the sound- the TV was on.

Here's the thing- about 2 weeks ago he was fine, swimming about and making bubble nests. Now he hangs out mainly at the bottom and I haven't seen a bubble nest yet. The water has gotten a bit cloudy as well, even after another gravel vac and water change. :( Please help!
