LIke probably many other people here my parents kept fish which sparked my interest in them. I particularly remember one individual and I would love to know what species it was - please can anyone have a stab at it from my description ! ?

About 6 inches in length (grew very quickly) very torpedo shaped, body depth only about 1 inch - and marked like a humbug with alternate black and yellow vertical stripes around the body - an extremely striking fish and I haven't seen another like it since. Any idea ?

Thanks

Rita

where did it's spend most it's time?

which way did it's mouth point?

although at the moment it sounds like a clown loach.

That's what I was thinking but didn't dare say it.

Metermaid - Sounds like the fish I have Leporinus Fasciatus - aka Black Banded Leporinus.

Grew very quickly - doubt it was a clown loach then?
You say it was 6" long but only 1" deep. Are you sure? The only fish I can think of with those sort of 'dimensions' are khulie loaches (with the vertical stripes) but that still doesn't sound right.
Was it aggressive?

Yes, yes - it was Leporinus !! - wow great to see a photo of it finally - thanks to all who replied (especially Solarguy !!). It was a very handsome fish - looking up on the web they can reach 12 inches - if my memory serves me right that is why it had to go back to lfs in the end !

thanks folks
