I got a cheap 8gallon tank today to put a small-medium sized angel in (it was in a 1/2 gallon betta tank for 60 hrs - either that or was to be put to sleep for being a serial killer, just sick of it killing my other other fish) I couldn't afford a filter as well, how much water should I be changing and how often (I should be able to get a small filter in about a week)

You should be doing 20% change every 3 days if it is unfiltered, however your angel wont last long i think.

Why not just spend $10 on a cheap filter for it?

Ben

He's lasted well enough in the 1/2 gallon betta tank 50% water change daily, cant afford a filter (cheapest I've seen is about $20 AUD) till either late next week or even the next monday (darn easter screwing with the banks pfffft :p )

8 gal and an angel???the angel will outgrow the tank prteey soon and youll ahve to buy a new one!If i was you id take it back to the LFS if you can or it will die or be stunted

@ oohfeeshy
-no use what I was able to find either needed an airpump (which I dont have) or I dont understand (or both)

@ germanshepherdlver

I've had this angel since about mid feb and to date its killed
2 other angels that were its size
1 Bristlenose
Multiple Guppies
1 Female Swordtail

and almost killed a fully grown angel

Tried in 2 different tanks (20 gallon and 40gallon), so thursday night after he tried doing over the large angel I put in a 1/2 gallon betta tank till I could get a larger tank (the 8 gallon his in now). I'm gonna stick a filter in as soon as I get the funds and in a few weeks when I get a scholarship payment through I'll get a 40+gallon tank and get some fish very able to hold their own against it (suggestions please  )

take him back to the lfs

it will do good for you(less expensive and dont have to do water changes) and the fish(it will lead a happier life)

DD

The LPS/LFS where I got said they dont want him, and even if they did its not my fish it belongs to my youngest (2 1/2 years, he walks up to the fish tanks, points and says "fish" in his cutest possible tolddler voice) so its worth the effort (its just been quite expensive in fish to replace, the smaller tank we wanted anyway as a breeder/fry tank just getting it before I could really afford it. Damn banks/damn easter bunny

Well, if you siphon 1/3 to 1/2 of the water from the bottem each week and replace it with clean water from an established tank, maybe mix in a little new water, and feed very carefully , he should be O K . Until he starts to out grow the small tank. This is a lot of work for a fish you probably don't really like. Put free fish note on the bulliton board at your LFS.

Sorry Katchum, I misssed the part about the toddler. You are stuck with the fish.
Good Luck KF :)

Thats ok kinda fishey, as I said I 'll put in a tank with some fish that are more than able to handle themselves an excuse for another tank ;)

You could do a smallish NW cichlid tank. My angel and severum are getting along famously :) The sev is smaller than the angel and it's so funny, he LOVES to tease the angel, who's boss of the tank. He will follow the angel around like a little puppy dog and then the angel will turn and chase him all over the tank. Repeat ad nauseum  Neither of them *ever* nip any fins, but the angel is definitely in charge
