Hi Guys,

Sad day for me today. I have had my tank stocked for just over a week and today I came home from work, fed the fish and all of a sudden one of my pearls was swimming all over the place in an unbalanced manner???
It did appear that this Pearl was the less dominant of a pair and being no expert I assumed her being chased/followed around the tank by the other Pearl was normal behavoiur as they were always constantly together unless she was hiding from the other?
My ammonia and nitrite were at zero nitrate about 40 and p.h approx 8 which seems to have climbed recently????
What caused this to happen PH to high? Nitrate too high? or just bulied by the other Pearl??

Any suggestions

Did you do a fishless cycle before you added the fish.
Or did you just set the tank up and add fish.

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
What is your tap ph.
What substrate and ornaments do you have in the tank.

sand substrate, black pebbles, 10" piece bogwood, several live plant types don't know names sorry?

Have done a large water change and all my levels are good so still unsure whay maybe one of those things as the existing pearl is fine?

You need to find out why your ph has raised.

the bogwood was added about a week into my cycle and the ph did crash once or twice during the end of my cycle but it appears to have stabilised at the high7 end? My other pearl is still fine and no other fish are causing concern. I'm going to put this one down as a mystery???
Thanks for your replies tho guys

I had the same thing mate

Had 2 pearls in a 125L tank (1 male, 1 female), water fine, nothing new, then suddenly my male was upside down, floating on the surface with literally no gill movement, so I put him out of his misery.

Mine was in the tank for about a year.

I could'nt explain it either.

Whats your tap ph.
Do you do large water changes.
