Hi, all

I live in a warm country (25-30 degree celsius).

I would like to breed and grow some fish on a 200 liters barrel, to use it as live food for my other predatory fishes.

I feel that with a natural feeding (live fish) they stay happier and healthy.

Since live fish is pricey, I was thinking about farm some guppies or mollys because they have a good size and breed easily, but I'm not sure about it been the best option to my garage setup.

So, Would you guys point one species that;

1 can be breed on a 200 liter barrel (that's all space I have)
2 and produce the most offsprings in less time,
3 also being able to cope with large stock density? (more is better).

I got all equipment, plants and so on. Just need some advice on best species to my needs.

Thanks

Melinda

You can get feeder guppies at pet stores for dirt cheap, I would suggest those. (Rosy reds are also common feeder fish, but I'm not sure how easy they breed.)

1) Most likely yes, assuming the barrel is clean and has proper filtration.
2) Not sure what you mean by this.
3) It should equal out. Feed some live some days and feed frozen/dry others. This will give the fish a cance to keep up with the breeding.

If you feed the fish on live fish only, they can develop nutritional deficiencies and if you ever run out of live food, they go on a hunger strike.

You are better off feeding a variety of dead/ dry foods and give them live food as a treat once every few weeks.
