Uneven Temp? Update, Please Help

It's not old, had it less than 6 months, but I'm going to get a bigger wattage one, maybe as my home is cold, the usual guide to ratings doesn't apply.

i had to upgrade my 25 wt heater for a 50wt heater a few days ago (for a 6 gal)..usually holds steady between 76-78 but found it was down to 74 and its a preset jobby so i cant up the thermostat. new one has adjustments and happy to say doing a WONDERFUL job at 78.
honestly, id get another heater. maybe hold onto that one for summer months when its warmer out and the smaller wattage can handle a few degree difference between water temp and ambient temp.

Yes, I've got a new one, but it's still no different-see update.
aly, it was 25w in 5 gall, now 100w in 5 gall. Yes it has a lid, it's an aqua 40.
