I assume at least a few people are using underground filtration in betta tanks. I know its not the latest technology but I've had good results with it in the past and problems finding parts for smaller filters has me running a test tank using a goldfish bowl UGF. The advantages I see are adjustable water flow, relatively low maintenance and a more stable environment for the betta. So far, it seems to be working very well. Any thoughts or experiences on the pros/cons longer term?

Thanks for the comments.

UPDATE: I now have two three gallon tanks in use that use under gravelfilters. One betta in each tank. I've reduced the airflow by sharing one small filter to power both tanks. The tanks need some more places for the bettas to hide and to amuse them but both seem quite happy. I still plan to work on the air flow but it seems to be working well.

i've got a 28 litre tank with an UGF and it works great, combined with a gravel cleaner and 20% water changes every few weeks the waters always clean and the stats are always perfect

I always thought UGF were a good idea but haved never used one but was thinking of getting one for my community. But it should be fine :good:
Good Luck
