I am converting my rock gravel to sand pretty soon. I would like to also get a underground filter, for my tank. I was wondering if I can run a underground filter with powerheads, with sand instead of rock gravel?

Not with only sand, as the cavities between the sand grains are too small to let the water through, and the sand is so fine it will fall through the plate slots

Dang! I knew it lol, thanks for the info. Looks like I will stick with the filter I got because I want sand lol

UGFs are also very old fashioned. They cause more harm than good long term IME. I would just ditch it and stick with the sand.
