Under Gravel Filter - No Mech Filtration?

looks good, if the undergravel filter is in there and its working, why change it for now?

Undergravel filters are still one of the most efficiant filters around, just get a small gravel vac to clean it every month...

Is the tank fully cycled? if not maybe go in to your lfs and ask them to vac out some dirt from thier undergravels if they any, and add it to your tank, take the powerhead off and siphon it directly in to the tube so it goes under the filter.

ps, why is the powerhead at the bottom, why not put at the top?

I put mine at the top, that way you cant see the bugger lol...

It would not matter top or bottom, still work the same ;)

No the UGF is not established yet, thats why i think i'll get a sponge filter as i'm used to these.

The tanks looking very clear now and the few cherries i put un there are doing fine. Just need to leave it now and let things settle down a bit. I plan on ordering a filter tonight so should have they running asap.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

Simon
