Umm.. What's This On My Plant?

Hi guys,

I've come across something growing on my driftwood/plants, its the first time I have ever come across something like this in my tank which I've had for around 1 year now.

I'm assuming its some sort of algae, but not too sure. If anyone can please let me know what I'm meant to do to get rid of it and what it is, that would be great! I've attached an image below.

This is fairly common on wood that's only recently been introduced in to a tank. However, I just see that your tank's been running for about a year. Was the wood introduced more recently? It does look exactly like the stuff I've seen on newer wood and even on newish decorative gravel (I had some of that Roman Black Gravel in two of my tanks and in both cases that stuff appeared for a couple of weeks and then stopped). If it is the same stuff it's harmless and easily hoovered off with a gravel vac or syphon tubing.

I introduced some new wood a few weeks ago but removed it thinking there was something wrong, now its obviously spread to the others. Do I just keep removing it until it doesn't come back?

To me it looks like algae but if it's coming from the bogwood it could be a mould or fungus which I wouldn't worry about just keep removing it as it builds up.

It is strange that you tank has been running for a year and it's only just started, makes me think it could be algae.

Just keep removing it and I think it will go away.
