I spoke to my mother yesterday about buying some tetras to put in my 10 gallon with my three guppies. So today I bought 6 tetras for my tank... little did I know that at the same time my mother was buying another 6 tetras. Now I have 12 tetras (6 neons and 6 glow-lights) in a tank with three guppies and I was planning on adding two corries later on.

I still plan on getting the two corries but now I have 6 more tetras than I was planning on having and neither my mother or I will be able to go back to the LFS to return the fish tonight. What can I do?

Just a side note; I have also been planning on another 5 gallon tank to put in the kitchen. I could do a quick set-up and put the 6 tetras in there by tomorrow but I'm still in that same bind for at least tonight.

*edit*

I just realized what I typed. The quick set-up will only mean I will have an extra (cycled) tank in at least a week.

For one night you shouldn't have a problem with them all in the same tank, it's catching them to take them back to the LFS or rehome them that could get interesting. ;)

So when could u take them back? tomorrow?

if so just dont feed them andtake them back 2mw, im sure they will be fine

I've got a Breeder net for my guppies, could I put the tetras in there and just pick them up tomorrow?

As a temporary setup, I really dont think you will have any problems with 12 small tetras and 3 guppies in a ten gallon tank provide your filtration is adequate (power filter). I would have more issues with using the 5 gallon tank, I don't think that is going to give your school the room that they need to "school".
