So, I bought a pair of black orchid Crowntails. They got here and I assumed the smaller one was the female, now, thing is, I'm not sure whose the male and the female, and I thought I'd try and get your guy's opionions today?! So, who do you think is the male and who do you think is the female? Betta A is the larger betta, but, he/she has the larger stomache. Betta B has the smallest fins, and is a lot smaller! Here are some, horribly blurry, pictures. I moved them to small glasses for the pictures. There was no markings on the bags, so, yeah...

Crackin photo's you got there amigo
A's the male, B's the female.

OOOPS!!! Sorry, just noticed this is a pole!
Bit of a numpty

i would have said the other way around. as betta A has a full of eggs look to the belly ( or have they just been fed here)
technically the male would be more flamboyant, so that looks like betta A. best way to tell is to put them both in breeding traps next to one another, and you should be able to tell by the behaviour...male beard should be very evident on flaring

Could be two females actually :/ cant tell properly, if they have a white dot(called the ovipositor)on the abdoman then they are female.
Another way to find out is to put them together, most females get a long, if you have a male he will chase the female, 2 males then they will fight or flare up at one another- hope this helps.

Aaahh but this logic while true has a flaw, how old are tgey as some males will have fake eggspot these are juvanile bettas :)

Betta A is 100% male just looks like he has eaten too much as per usual for bettas  as for B difficult to tell as the photo is too blurry but if they were sold to you as a pair then that would be your girl :) they are however, not black orchid crowntails and possibly not even crowntails they look to be combtails which is a crossing of a crowntail and a veiltail, for them to be classed as crowns the webbing will need to be reduced by 50% at least, the male looks like he has a 25-30% reduction in webbing.

Well, I still think they're cute :) even if they're not crowntails! Maybe it'll change as they get older?? And I currently have Betta B in with the females, and he/she gets along fine. But Betta A it kinda looks like it has a white spot, but it swims too fast for me to be sure. I haven't seen a white spot on Betta B

some young males have the fake white egg spot that the females do so dont be falled by this but then again it could be female you can never tell

Betta B is getting along relatively fine with the females, when there are lil tiffs, she does seem to be at the middle of them. She/he's the instigator most the time in fact, even though she's smaller

I'm glad to see that the general consensus is with me! I thought that's right, so, I have them sorted that way! If anything changes as they get older, I'll change it

Betta A is the male, B is the female (she has shorter fins)

Okay, i'm glad almost everyone agrees with me XD i had some doubt when i saw what looks like a white spot on Betta A's stomach

Are you guys positive?? Betta A is quite large in the belly and it still has a white spot. I've noticed the betta next to it, Bob, is always flaring right next to the divider. Bob completely ignores Elan who is on the other side of him. Betta A is always begging for more food, so, I'm not sure if the big stomach is cuz it's a female, or it just eats a lot, although I'm not even feeding it much, and it was that big when it got here, and it looks just like the pic of its ma.... So, i'm just so confused!

Also, I have never noticed Betta A or Betta B flaring with a beard, even though Betta B is living with girls, and Betta A is living next to a guy. I have seen Betta A flaring, but, I have yet to notice a beard when flaring
